The new Companies (Corporate Enforcement Authority) Act 2021 was signed into law on the 22nd of December last. The primary purpose of this Act is to establish a new independent statutory authority known as the Corporate Enforcement Authority (CEA). This new Authority will be given the responsibility for investigating and pursuing economic and white-collar crime in Ireland. In this regard, the CEA will replace the ODCE in relation to the investigation and enforcement of a corporate crime.
The Act is expected to commence sometime in January 2022.
