Welcome Call for Reduced VAT Rate on Family Law Cases
A recent proposal by the Irish Professional Mediators Organisation to reduce the vat on mediation and legal fees involved in Family Law cases from the current rate of 23% to 9% has been widely welcomed by all of those involved in the Legal and Mediation profession.
The costs involved in parties can be considerable and in circumstances where the Family Home is sold (which is very often the case) the Government is receiving substantial revenues in the form of stamp duty on two new purchases as well as vat on other professional fees such as Auctioneers’ fees. There will also be other added benefits to the Exchequer such as vat on construction costs in relation to work that may need to be done on houses that are purchased by the couple.
The Minister for Finance is to consider these proposals and hopefully these will be approved in the near future.
